[edit] Proposal 29-Jan-2006: New categories production

  • We make the actual new cateogies after x time or x wiki fall into that category, pre-launch. MarkDilley
    • Additional Categories. I found that if you add an additional category to a page (see CodeBook and AddYourOwn) you must also add the category command somewhere on the page so that it also categorized the article properly. I am concerned that this will be confusing to users, so for now, I am using this format to at least keep it all in one place: --Ray 17:04, 19 Jan 2006 (EST)
      • Ray, I know what you mean about the proper way to create new categories, but I'm not sure what you're saying about "this format." Can you clarify, please? TedErnst | talk 00:02, 18 Feb 2006 (EST)
  • I think they way we're adding new wiki's is fine now, can we retire this proposal? --Raymond King | talk 03:17, 23 Feb 2006 (EST)
    • Is this proposal about when we create redlinked categories? TedErnst | talk 17:27, 23 Feb 2006 (EST)
    • Ray, what do you mean the "way we are adding new wikis is fine now" - I think it would be nice and clear to have a genderal agreement (guideline) that we are not filling out a category for one or two wiki. MarkDilley | talk

Can this proposal be retired now? TedErnst | talk 19:42, 5 July 2006 (EDT)

This is the text of the Template:CategoryDiscussions. It's intended to connect the various discussions about categories (also called "tags") that are taking place on various pages. If you find a discussion on categories that doesn't have this template, please add the template by typing in {{CategoryDiscussions}} and then go edit the template to summarize the discussion you found. The following discussions are taking place:

  • WikiIndex:How do categories work - tries to explain to new editors how our category system works. (Or at least, how we hope it will someday work, once we finish the tasks in the below WikiProjects).
  • WikiProject:Categories and Tags - lists some category-related projects we've been working on (feel free to help).
  • Category talk:Browse - The talk page of the de facto root category. A logical place for category discussions to occur. Mentions language stuff. Also questions whether "Browse" should even be a category.
  • WikiIndex:Categories - According to the wiki's de facto root category (Browse), this is where category discussion takes place. It is currently empty.
  • Language Issues:
  • General Structure Debates:
    • Proposal:CategoryTree - Offers a pic showing how categories should maybe work in general. Also summarizes how various categories are actually being used currently.
    • Proposal:New categories production - A theory of "how to organize categories organically".
    • Category talk:Blog - Should variants of the same word be "collapsed" or not? Brought up by existence of cats for Weblog, Weblogs, Blog, Blogs, and Blogging.
    • Category talk:Wiki Topic - What should the "root of the topics of wikis" cat be named?
  • Dealing With Geography:
  • Specific Categories:
