The Semantic Web is the extension of the World Wide Web which enables people to share content beyond the boundaries of applications and websites. It has been described in rather different ways: as a utopic vision, as a web of data, or merely as a natural paradigm shift in our daily use of the web. Most of all, the Semantic Web has inspired and engaged many people to create innovative semantic technologies and applications. The Semantic Web project encompasses multiple applications, including several wiki engines.

Sadly, the wiki site at semanticweb.org itself became a little neglected, and suffered with the usual wiki problems of multiple spambot account registrations along with additional spam pages being created - and no one seemed to be keeping this in check. Its wiki content was released under one of two licences:[1] either GNU Free Documentation License 1.2 (GFDL 1.2) or Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic licence (CC-BY 2.0).[2]
