Openness is a key component of the Wiki Way. Openness can refer to many types of transparency which respect users' privacy and freedom. In terms of software, it may mean using and promoting free/libre, open software. In terms of procedures, it may refer to providing records for minutes and votes or opening up debate and questions to the community at large. In terms of standards, it may refer to adhering to rules which allow for interoperability (such as valid HTML or using ISO codes to refer to languages).
