Wikiscan, located at Wikiscan.org, is a website which produces and displays independent statistics on Wikipedia and other wiki sites hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF). "Wikiscan is not linked to the Wikimedia Foundation , the statistics published here are not official". Wikiscan was created by a volunteer user from Paris, France, in 2011. It is hosted on the servers of Wikimedia France. As of September 2021, Wikiscan generates statistics from 934 separate wiki sites of the WMF.

The Wikiscan software source code is made available under GNU General Public License version 2 (GPL v2), and the two latest versions of Wikiscan can be downloaded from the Wikiscan about page. The displayed content generated by Wikiscan (except its logo) is published under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 3.0 (originally deed France) (CC BY-SA 3.0). It uses public data made freely available from the relevant MediaWiki API for each individual wiki site, together with pageview files from Wikistats to generate pictorial graphs of statistics.

This Wikiscan.org article is
referring to a site which seems
not to be, or include, a wiki.
However, it still refers to
the subject of wikis.

Individual reports of Wikiscan outputs are located at sub-domains of https://Wikiscan.org. Being as Wikiscan primarily concentrates on the various language versions of Wikipedia, the Wikiscan URLs mirror the individual language abbreviation (the ISO 639-1 language code) for the Wikiscan sub-domain identifier; for example, the Wikiscan URL for the English Wikipedia is https://en.Wikiscan.org, the Norwegian Wikipedia Wikiscan URL is https://no.Wikiscan.org, the Chinese Wikipedia Wikiscan URL is https://zh.Wikiscan.org, etc. Other Wikimedia Foundation project wiki sites are configured with their language abbreviation merged in front of their project name (without a period); so the English Wiktionary is found at https://enwiktionary.Wikiscan.org, the English Wikiversity is at https://enwikiversity.Wikiscan.org, the English Wikibooks is located at https://enwikibooks.Wikiscan.org, English Wikisource is at https://enwikisource.Wikiscan.org, and English Wikinews will be found at https://enwikinews.Wikiscan.org. The other language versions of the various projects mirror the English examples, but the notable exceptions are the multilingual wikis; Wikimedia Commons is found at https://commons.Wikiscan.org, whereas Wikimedia Wikidata is found at https://wikidata.Wikiscan.org, and so on.

In 2021, Ciencia Al Poder copied the source code before it disappeared from Wikiscan.org and tweaked it to work on independent wiki sites; WikiDex is one example of its independent use.

Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. (WMF), founded 20 June 2003, is the wiki company and non-profit charitable organization[1] responsible for a very large number (over 900 in total) of very active collaborative user-generated wiki sites, which are grouped together by primary subject and known as a 'project'; as well as the wiki engine software initially developed by themselves, known as MediaWiki. The Wikimedia Foundations' major wiki projects started with Wikipedia (encyclopedia), and subsequently expanded to include Wiktionary (dictionary and thesaurus), Wikiquote (quotations), Wikibooks (open content textbooks), Wikisource (free content primary-source and secondary-source texts), Wikinews (news source), Wikiversity (open learning community), Wikispecies (free species directory), and many others as listed below. Most of these 'projects' have separate wiki site versions written in many different languages. There is also the Wikimedia Commons (shared repository for documents, images, videos, and other media and text files), Wikidata (central space knowledge base for data used on all WMF projects), and the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki (coordination of issues common to all Wikimedia projects). The Wikimedia Foundations' global reach is nurtured in its Incubator, where all new language versions for all projects are initiated and developed before being launched as a new separate wiki site. The Foundations' most recent major project, Wikivoyage (a 'travelpedia'), was inducted to WMF in late 2012.

Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is a member of the Open Source Initiative (OSI). Furthermore, the Wikimedia Foundation is a United States 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, granted April 2005, and headquartered at 1 Montgomery Street, Suite 1600, San Francisco County, State of California 94104, United States of America.[2]
