A wiki gnome (scientific classification: Smallus editus) is usually defined as a wiki user who will focus on taking care of wikis by handling the little things (spelling, grammar, compliance with any 'Manual of Style', etc.), making sure that entries are technically correct, and helping out new and confused users as best they can. The former Wiki Spot-hosted Wiki Gnome Headquarters wiki was the headquarters for wiki gnomes and interwiki gnomes.
Status
Wiki gnomes, like all species of gnomes, are shy diminutive creatures, typically appearing physically lifeless to humans. They will normally go about their work totally unnoticed by humans, though their work is always very important. Sadly, few humans will have the opportunity to meet a live working gnome; their international conservation status is classed as vulnerable, and are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species (3.1), and thus considered to be at high risk of unnatural (human-caused) extinction without further human intervention!
International Gnome Day
The first International Gnome Day was celebrated on 21st June 2002 by many Gnomes from a dozen countries. Their valiant efforts were recorded in a book.
