'''PlanetMath''' is a virtual community which aims to help make {{tag|Mathematics|mathematical}} knowledge more accessible.  PlanetMath's content is created collaboratively: the main feature is the mathematics {{tag|encyclopedia}} with entries written and reviewed by members.  Entries are written in {{tag|LaTeX}}, the {{Cambridge-Dictionary|lingua franca}} of the [[:Category:Global|worldwide]] mathematical community.  Articles are then rendered for presentation on the web using [https://DLMF.NIST.gov/LaTeXML/ LaTeXML], and links between them are added using [[GitHub:dginev/nnexus|NNexus]].


PlanetMath originally used the {{tag|Noösphere}} wiki engine software, which was written especially for PlanetMath.  However, some would argue that Noösphere has diverged enough from more traditional wiki that it is no longer a [[:Category:Wiki engine|wiki engine]].  The Noösphere wiki content was originally released under the {{tag|Wiki GNU Free Documentation License|GNU Free Documentation License}} (GNU FDL, or GFDL), but this was subsequently changed to the {{tag|Wiki Creative Commons Attribution|Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States license}} (CC-BY 3.0).


Uses the "[[Noösphere]]" software, which was written especially for PlanetMath.
In March 2013, a new version of the PlanetMath wiki was released on the then new developmental {{tag|Planetary}} wiki engine. Its content is now released under the {{tag|Wiki Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike|Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 2.0 license}} (CC-BY-SA 2.0).
However, some would argue that "Noösphere" has diverged enough from more traditional wiki that it is no longer a [[WikiEngine]].
