ICANNWiki supports the membership of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ({{tag|ICANN}}), an internationally organized, non-profit corporation that has responsibility for Internet Protocol (IP) address space allocation, protocol identifier assignment, generic (gTLD) and country code (ccTLD) Top-Level Domain name system management, and root server system management functions.

The ICANNWiki provides a forum for issues that concern {{tag|ICANN}} members and provides a page for each member that contains biographical data, a picture and a charitcature of the member.  {{tag|ICANN}} has a world wide membership and ICANNWiki helps put names to faces and gives voice to members on issues even when meeting are not in progress.

The Internet Governance space is known for being highly technical and obscure, making it difficult to develop a general understanding of the issues involved.
These issues are pertinent to the daily lives of all Internet users, as well as those on the other edge of the digital divide, still waiting for Internet access. ICANNWiki works with the community to break these complex concepts down into understandable, fully-referenced, fact-based, and neutral articles.

As of October 2007, ICANN is operating IDNwiki as a series of Unicode test wikis at http://idn.icann.org and a set of IDN URL's corresponding to example.test in 11 language scripts - a total of 12 wikis.
