Publicize!

It is a shame that WikiIndex has such limited community visibility! Would one of the founders please put articles about WikiIndex in at least Wikinfo and WikiKnowledge, where I believe they would be welcome? I would do it, but I can't figure out the cross-licensing hassles... Or, please release a description of WikiIndex into the Public Domain, that anyone can freely post anywhere? (Do quite like the WikiIndex History article, by the way.) Took me over a day of searching to stumble on the existence of WI -- Let's try to make it easier for others to find. (I understand, there is really nothing we can do about the low visibility in the wiki-which-must-not-be-named, where it would be most appropriate and useful.) --69.87.200.5 18:07, 4 February 2007 (PST)

Much discussion about the next step for WikiIndex at RecentChangesCamp in Portland this last weekend (Feb 2-4, 2007) see the session notes. So much to talk about... Could someone please work on giving us all access to useful recent traffic / page-view data, so we can see how much general use this wiki is getting, and whether it is increasing? Special:PopularPages would almost be useful, but needs at least one more column for "views in the last 30 days" -- total views ever is just not very useful (and it doesn't even tell us, starting from when). Special:Statistics also suffers from not giving us any recent-time-window data. What we really want to see is some nice weekly/monthly graphs for the last year. *** Its weird that the standard MediaWiki software is so limited in some ways. *** Many websites have not populated their Project:Copyrights page! You should add a direct link for that to your template here for wiki articles. Favicon

I like the way you folks are thinking! I created a favicon File:Preview 16x16.png but don't know where to store the .ico - after I can get it stored on the web, then I can ask John Stanton to add it. Best, MarkDilley

The generic standard is, name it favicon.ico and store it in the html root folder. But each page served can call out a favicon file, I guess, so maybe MediaWiki has its own special way of doing things? I'm afraid your design takes the standard graphic too small -- I could not tell what it was supposed to be, even though I am familiar with the current graphic, until I compared them visually. I think it needs to be "simplified", plainer, more contrast, to work on such a small scale. And maybe the keys should be re-arranged but better use the square area available? Be merciful

Good question. There are two superficial matches at Special:Allmessages, linking to MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning and MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning2. Those two pages are locked from edits, but they don't really match the edit boilerplate, anyway, so the true source seems more deeply hidden in the software. --69.87.202.225 10:27, 17 February 2007 (PST)

Logo

Um... the logo on the infobox says "WikiIndex - SwitchWiki" while the logo in the corner of the site says "WikiIndex - IndexWiki".

Languages

I think a subpage for each language would be better than an endless growing WikiIndex entry. BTW: The Welcome page could be translated too (In this case I'd prefer to have an ordinary page for each language, named in this language and coupled by a navigation template). --Wolf | talk 03:14, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
