'''PmWiki''' is a highly advanced, fully featured, and continuously developed {{tag|wiki engine}}, written in {{tag|PHP}}.  It was created in {{tag|Founded in 2001|2001}}[https://www.PmWiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/WikiGroupMotivation] by Dr Patrick R. Michaud ([[PmWiki:Profiles/Pm|Pm]]) from [[:Category:France|France]], and is released as {{tag|free software}} under version 2 of the {{tag|GNU General Public License}} (GPLv2).  All [[wiki]] site data is stored in [[PmWiki:PmWiki/FlatFileAdvantages|flat files]], and the core wiki engine can be customised by adding extensions, which PmWiki call 'recipes' that are available from their '[[PmWiki:Cookbook/Cookbook|Cookbook]]'.  PmWiki is visually vaguely similar to [[:Category:MediaWiki|MediaWiki]]; having a [[sidebar]] for wiki navigation, and individual page commands (view, [[edit]], [[Edit history|history]], print) at the top right (but without 'tabs').  PmWiki supports most of the established [[:Category:Wiki syntax|wiki syntax]], including [[CamelCase]] (now disabled by default), [[free link]]s, [[backlink]]s, [[interwiki]], and [[sister wiki]].  Page rendering appears to be clean and fast, and is also [[:Category:Wikis with a mobile-view site|mobile]] friendly.  One {{tag|great feature}} of PmWiki is that no existing data is lost or corrupted during separate simultaneous attempts at editing the same page; PmWiki will automatically merge these attempted [[PmWiki:PmWiki/SimultaneousEdits|simultaneous edits]], thus preventing the dreaded '[[edit conflict]]' which occurs on more complex engines such as MediaWiki.
