Encyclopedia Dramatica's purpose is to provide a central catalog for the e-public to view parody and satire of drama, memes, e-pals, and other interesting happenings on the internets. Its goal is to provide comprehensive, reference-style parody, to poke fun at everyone and everything on the internet.
Expect to find pornography, gore, etc.
Founded in 2004, Encyclopedia Dramatica, in lulz we trust (ED) is a free-form vibrant wiki site dedicated to collecting all manner of internet sub-culture, including illustrations, descriptions and histories, especially as related to trolling, troll activities, and internet drama. Unlike many mainstream wikis such as Wikipedia, ED was intentionally indecent, obtuse, and inaccurate - the actual information related to a situation would come with further research, not by simply reading the related ED article. Constantly on the edge of collapse in later years, ED eventually went under on 14 April 2011, and moved to 'Oh Internet', a more mainstream and sanitized version of the site, to great protest.
While the mission and writing of ED might be considered offensive and inaccurate, the contents of the site capture in great detail the memes, lore and examples of years of trolling culture and activity, representing a large back catalog of the dark underside of the internet.
- Software
ED previously used its own customized version of MediaWiki, MediaWiki 1.0.2-ED, with 15 extensions. noindex and nofollow are applied to special pages and to history pages, but not to edit pages or individual diffs. As a result, old revisions will sometimes appear in search engine results.
