The word '[[Metapedia]]' is derived from two concepts from classical [[:Category:Greek|greek]]: '[[Cambridge-Dictionary:meta#meta-|metá]]' (''μετά'') that means '[[Cambridge-Dictionary:outside|outside]]' or '[[Cambridge-Dictionary:beyond|beyond]]'; and 'enkýklios paideía' (''ἐγκύκλιος παιδεία'') that means '[[Cambridge-Dictionary:encyclopaedia|encyclopaedia]]'.  The name has a dual symbolic meaning:

*Metapedia sets its focus on [[:Category:Wiki Topic|topics]] that usually are not covered in, i.e., that falls outside of, [[Cambridge-Dictionary:mainstream|mainstream]] encyclopaedias;

*Metapedia has a [[Collins-Dictionary:metapolitics|metapolitical]] purpose, to influence the mainstream [[:Category:Debate|debate]], culture, and [[:Category:History|historical]] view.
