Overview[edit]
Failing to use Help:Contents the way it was designed is a serious waste of an easily-accessed standard namespace.
Who wants to type "WikiIndex:" when he or she could type "help:" as the start of a link to a new or existing "help" page?
And why mix pages that can help non-contributors (as well as contributors) with the "machinery" information and guidelines that are in the "project" (ie "WikiIndex:") namespace designed for contributors?
I recommend that all three of the pages currently in this namespace have their redirects replaced by a copy of the content they redirect to (with reciprocal links so that the content of each can diverge appropriately and still be accessible easily from the other for as long as there is close relatedness). Then Help:Contents can add at the top something like this:
- This page lists the main groups of pages that are designed to help contributors and non-contributors. Most of the pages non-contributors should find useful are prefixed with "Help:" and/or are in Category:Help. Contributors will find help there too but may also want the "project" pages - see project:help.
or like the excellent example (which I had nothing to do with) at https://www.WeRelate.org/wiki/Help:Contents. robinp 03:25, 13 Apr 2006 (EDT)
- Robin, I think you understand this best of all of us working here so far. Go for it! And if you need something deleted because it's in the way of a move, let me know and I'll do it. TedErnst | talk 11:06, 13 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Community portal[edit]
I am not clear on the purpose/function of the Community portal page. It does not talk about itself, does not explain itself other than by being what it is. It seems to me that it should at least be mentioned on the Help page -- and this material should be added by a core admin that can add appropriate short descriptive material.--69.87.199.67 06:01, 15 February 2007 (PST)
