TestWiki, hosted on the Miraheze wiki farm, is a project with a friendly community that provides an environment for users to experiment with administrator permissions, templates, extensions, and other features provided by the MediaWiki software.
In addition to providing a testing environment, Test Wiki also provides training programs to help users familiarize themselves with running a community. These training programs are designed by members of the community and anyone is welcome to contribute to these programs. Due to its features and community, TestWiki remains a popular playground for Wikipedia users and other users that want to have administrator permissions.
Other projects also have partnership relationships set up with Test Wiki, where Test Wiki acts as the official testing environment for the project. This alleviates the partner's need to set up its own testing environment.
- Permissions available
The permissions available for testing at TestWiki largely reflect the permissions available at Wikipedia. Note that there are no requirements to obtaining testing permissions, provided that the user has an account in good standing. A bot grants most rights automatically, with the exception of bureaucrat, and bot.
Test Wiki does not require "confirmation edits" on other projects before permissions are granted. This opens up testing to a wide range of individuals and helps ensure that users are able to test as soon as possible.
The following permissions are available for testing:
Permission | Description |
---|---|
Administrator | The regular set of administrative permissions are included in this testing permission. |
