Subject: taking the Asia Commons to the next step

Hello! How is everyone? I posted a blog entry inquiring whether or not a commons has a mission. I did not receive any replies in the last week and invite you to to read this entry if you have not yet done so:

This memo represents the birth of a wiki pledge for collaboration for the Asia Commons. I'm asking each of us to make an agreement. Quoting Ross Mayfield:

"Wiki pages provide persistent focus for conversations. Often times ad hoc groups form around an issue and gather to communicate. Talk is cheap and transforming it into action is one of the greatest challenges. Transforming a social network conversation into a creative network action is best supported by a wiki pledge page for collaboration. Individuals can easily refactor and organize personal views of creative and social network resources for their own productivity."

We were handed a wiki and requested to collaborate with it. We did an amazing job making 222 changes on Jun 8th capturing what we're all about. A month later, we make approx 2 changes/day. That is a *huge* difference!

Does anyone have anything they would like to comment in regards to this?

The wiki paradigm a fascinating one - the whole design and intent is to cause action. What action(s) did you envision walking out of our conference? What outcomes would come of these actions by next year when we reconvene? Will we promote continuity and prepare summaries for each topic discussed and review what happened at the beginning of our next conference?

I am now a believer of the wiki as a result of what happened at our conference and all the follow up conversations I've been having over the past 3 weeks. I would like to keep the momentum going and bring our community to the next level. I assert reevaluating how we use our wiki and inventing new ways to interact with it will cause that next level for us.

How I want to do this is invite wiki experts to join the Asia Commons.

Last week, I had a wonderful opportunity to speak to MarkDilley via WikiIndex (formerly SwitchWiki). He is clearly quite passionate about the transformational nature of wikis and was amazed at how many resources we exchanged as a result of a short conversation on the phone!

He was pleased to see our efforts during our conference and is interested in our success story - in fact, he is interested in our ongoing success! By this I mean he extends support to us as a community by creating a listening for us to share our opinions as to what causes our loss in momentum. He has been part of the wiki revolution from early 2002 and been through its ups and downs. I am committed we find a fascinating, fun, and effective way to collaborate together distinct from our past and embrace the wiki revolution!

This is a conversation for what's possible.

Let's discuss what's happening in the Asia Commons and our future over the next week.

We can collectively make a decision when we are ready to share with the wikiindex team what we've accomplished, where we are today, what direction we want to proceed in, and what stops us.
