aditional categories
Mark's calling these folksonomy categories. Is their use written down anywhere? I don't see the need to make them display on the page since they display when viewing the article anyway. Maybe this needs documentation? TedErnst 17:18, 19 Jan 2006 (EST)
Yes, that's exactly what I'd suggest. They show up in the footer in the default skin. Otherwise, maybe we ought to have a Template:MoreCat that will give you the display text you're looking for, rather than having to remember the codes all the time. I don't know. What's the purpose of having it show up twice? TedErnst 17:26, 19 Jan 2006 (EST)
You deleted altorgwiki for inappropriate content... what does that mean? MarkDilley
re: tags
Looks great! TedErnst | talk 11:16, 27 Jan 2006 (EST)
I don't know much about templates, except from messing with them. I know John had a problem with formatting which is why he added bullets to the tag template originally. I'm not sure what else to say about it, actually. TedErnst | talk 12:21, 27 Jan 2006 (EST)

excellent!
Re: Template question
Seem ok to me check out Notebook
Unable to solve the problem seems best not to use templates in-line with text.
Thanks Raymond
Hi Raymond, thanks for helping out with the categories on the PattayaWiki entry I initiated. I am new to Wikis and wasn't quite sure how to place it. I initially created loads of category tags which I now realize was a mistake, Harry Wood cleared them up and I have also written to him via his User Talk page.
The main guy behind the Pattaya Wiki is Pete who has been running the PattayaTalk.com forum for about a decade - it's an excellent forum with a lot of knowledgeable regulars. I suggested a wiki because I noticed how a lot of excellent contributions were submerging over time and the same questions were being asked again and again; veteran users were becoming antagonistic towards newbies who apparently didn't know how to use the search feature. I had never run a wiki but am a heavy Wikipedia user and am convinced that, if we can dig out all the wisdom that has been shared over the years in forum and refashion it for the wiki, it will be an extremely useful resource.
I believe that the subject matter is legitimate and, as more and more people relocate or retire to Thailand, it is important that they be informed not only of the highlights but also the pitfalls.

Bonjour Raymond - catégorie aide LangueFrançaise
Hi raymond. Just discovering via translation main features I ignored. So let's create a category:aide which could *really help* our french fellow wikistes ! [[User:ChristopheDucamp|Christophe Ducamp | User talk:ChristopheDucamp]] 21:12, 9 Feb 2006 (EST)
Ok, I'll follow your lead on this. Is there anything you need me to do? --Raymond King | talk 22:15, 9 Feb 2006 (EST)
Thanks. For the moment that seems ok. Will have just to build bridges on the Portail Communauté. For the moment, I'll try to synchronize and learn more about the software used here -- Christophe Ducamp | talk 22:29, 9 Feb 2006 (EST)
C'est bon. Vous avez vraiment ajouté une grande dimension à l'emplacement :-) --Raymond King | talk 22:31, 9 Feb 2006 (EST)
Raymond about the advertising I completely agree even if you could make a poll as [I saw here]. On my own, I think contextual advertising, (I mean in french) could help too bring some new contents. Let's say I agree on advertising. On CraoWiki, we've chosen to reserve it only for lurkers. That's to say, if people are logged no advertising. I like this idea ;-) Christophe Ducamp | talk 04:50, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)
Thanks for the thoughts, I'm going to circle around with the other major contributors and get a consensus. I think Mark and John pretty much feel the same way. --Raymond King | talk 13:20, 11 Feb 2006 (EST)
Bonjour. Woaaaa. Really impressed with your visual language dropped on Image:WikiIndexMap.jpg. Very clear and concise. How about translating them ? Could you drop any source file (svg, ai, ...). Think we could adapt in french. Very helpful to understand the architecture. Christophe Ducamp | talk 16:09, 12 Feb 2006 (EST)
Mon Français est des pauvres, me satisfait ainsi correct où nécessaire. En outre, j'ai laissé les catégories en anglais parce que je ne pense pas que nous voulons des reproductions (les "English" et "Anglais"). Que pensez-vous ? --Raymond King | talk 17:09, 12 Feb 2006 (EST)
I agree (for the moment !) not to duplicate categories/tags. It could be a real mess. May be we could translate them further ? Let's say for the moment, keep it simple, ... But my suggestions would be, your first translation should be reworked... How ?
- we could design a table (even if it seems complicated with the syntax here...)
English | French |
---|---|
english paragraph | french translation |
etc. And everybody could complete. ... But from my experience, it's heavy. The best we have tested on CommunityWiki is just to drop diagram in a CategoryDiagram[1]. People provide the sources and we translate the diagram. You will find an example on DossierDiagramme[2]. It works, it's a wikiway to make people cooperate, redesign on any visual if we could use some standards like SVG. Pehraps we could talk in the future of a svgwiki ? ;) Christophe Ducamp | talk 19:13, 12 Feb 2006 (EST)
I'm not sure I understand how that would work, but I just purchased the tool I need to convert the diagram to SVG format. It should be here in a few days :-) Let's give it a try then. --Raymond King | talk 19:55, 12 Feb 2006 (EST)
edit mode
Could you please weigh in at Category talk:Wiki Edit Mode? I'm getting antsy to make some decisions on these. Thanks! TedErnst | talk 17:04, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)
OK, sorry for the delay, was in Seattle for last 2 days...--Raymond King | talk 21:40, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)
No worries. My impatience is no one's issue but mine. :-) TedErnst | talk 23:38, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)

Wiki node future linking question
Asked John this: I am toying with the mark-up for wikinodes that are not there and TedErnst asked me a good question. Can we currently sort on a no for URL_wikinode? Meaning if we do what I am thinking about (e.g. The_league_of_scarybirds with the - WikiNode) does that damage being able to find those? Best, MarkDilley | talk
That's a really good idea, but I'm just not sure of the implementation given that we'd normally categorize that field and if we did so, then we'd have tons of category entries for the articles that in fact have wikinodes. It would seem that there should be some solution tho. --Raymond King | talk 20:57, 25 Feb 2006 (EST)
huh?
Sorry :-( - didn't understand the reply. FutureLink is usually for internal wiki actions. But FutureLinking the web is cool! Like WikiBardo. (moving this stuff to proposals.) MarkDilley | talk
ok, you are anal!
I just asked the person at the DARnet wiki to come make his presentation - his. :-) Will look even better when he shows up. 'cept you anal-ness didn't take into count that the page name is wrong! I will do that now :-) MarkDilley | talk
Doh! --Raymond King | talk 15:46, 26 Feb 2006 (EST)
wikis for review
Do we have a way to mark wikis for review? If not, remind me to create something, will you? In the meantime, take a look at GreenCheese, okay? comment going to both Mark and Ray -- TedErnst | talk 17:21, 10 Mar 2006 (EST)

re: MediaWiki:Name
Well, when you sign up here, you're asked for a Username. It's no wonder people don't put their real names. What I'm trying for is that people are ased for their Name. It doesn't have to say RealName, because your name is your name. At least that's what I'm trying for. I don't actually know if I've suceeded. TedErnst | talk 18:25, 13 May 2006 (EDT)
- Ted, thanks, I really think I am understanding you more clearly. Best, MarkDilley
Could you both please log out and see if this is working? Also, when you're logged in, check your preferences to see how that screen looks. THanks! TedErnst | talk 20:27, 13 May 2006 (EDT)
