Template:Wiki Farm

This Category: Referata is either empty, or sparsely populated,
and needs to be 'populated' with articles, stubs (and / or other categories)
relevant to the subject matter of this specific category.

Include an article page in this category via one (or more) of three methods:
a. add Referata in the appropriate field of its infobox template
b. 'tag' a word within the prose of the article, eg. {{tag|Referata}}
c. add [[Category:Referata]] at the bottom of its edit box.

Referata – wiki databases — offers hosting of semantic wikis; allowing you to add, structure, and store data so it can be managed, shared, browsed, and analysed in as many ways as you choose, within a wiki environment.

Referata is primarily run by Michael D Suarez, along with it's founder Yaron Koren, and is hosted by WikiWorks.com. It provides free wiki hosting for public wiki sites (aka a 'wiki farm') using the MediaWiki wiki engine, along with the Semantic MediaWiki plugin and associated Semantic Wiki suite of extensions, and also utilised the OpenID universal login. Referata also offers commercial paid-for wiki hosting, with enhanced[clarify please] facilities. All Referata sites support Google Analytics.

Combined with the collaborative abilities of a wiki, a site hosted on Referata can serve as a true user-powered database, with a minimal amount of setup work or technical knowledge. Referata wikis can be public or private, open or closed. Public wikis can be set up and run at no charge, but have a limit of 100 MB file storage. There are three paid-for service levels; at 20, 50, and 80 US$ per month.[1]

As of November 2016, the Referata developers and other staff appear to have at least partially abandoned the 'home' Referata (meta) wiki site. The feature requests page has dozens of requests that have seemingly been ignored, and the recent changes list is mostly full of new user account creations. It seems like the site has become just a dormant host for individual wikis.

As of June 2021, all Referata sites are unavailable, and its root URL displays the following message:[2]

Referata has been down for several days now, due to various network and server issues. We hope to have it back up soon. We apologize for the delay.

In October 2021, the default error notice changed to:

A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software.

  • Query:
SELECT lc_value FROM `l10n_cache` WHERE lc_lang = 'en' AND lc_key = 'deps' LIMIT 1
  • Function: LCStoreDB::get
  • Error: 144 Table './yaron57_www/l10n_cache' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed (localhost)
