Category: Semantic MediaWiki — this category here on WikiIndex contains wiki sites and / or wiki hosts which run on the MediaWiki wiki engine, but notably, which also use the Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) free and open source plug-in MediaWiki extension. This SMW plug-in allows wiki text and wikilinks to be entered as 'structured data' on a wiki site (often using forms), which is compliant with Semantic Web standards and protocols; and is therefore searchable and exportable as Resource Description Framework (RDF) feeds, and other forms of highly defined data output.
This archived page from the now defunct ontoworld.org wiki site describes one of the very basic yet powerful simplicities of Semantic MediaWiki syntax.
- Please note: 'Semantic MediaWiki' should not be entered in the engine field of the wiki infobox template for SMW enabled wikis – as technically, Semantic MediaWiki is not an actual wiki engine. Please just add 'MediaWiki' as the engine in the infobox, and add [[Category:Semantic MediaWiki]] at the bottom of the wiki article edit box, or 'tag' Semantic MediaWiki somewhere within descriptive prose text.
