HarryWiki was a wiki about Harry Potter universe.
- What is HarryWiki?
First things first: What differentiates HarryWiki.com from all the other fanfic sites out there? By using wiki, we’re seeing if fans can collectively write the seventh Harry Potter book. Other sites will have chapters, or short stories, or even novel-length creations by one person or another. HarryWiki, however, lets each visitor contribute to a growing story.
Some of you may jump around from chapter to chapter within the novel, working on the arc of the story as a whole. Others may take interest in writing particular chapters, getting into the detailed descriptions and hints that make the Harry Potter universe come alive. Some may decide to write alternate versions of chapters and events that take the story in a new direction (leading, down the road, to multiple 'finished' novels on the site). A few of you will undoubtedly spend your time tweaking and massaging what others have written, making connections and filling in gaps. We've even thought of those who only want to write Quidditch matches and classroom scenes without trying to find an appropriate place for them in the novel. Our Short Scene Repository will house brief snippets of text ripe for the picking and insertion into the novel by others.
Of course, all this writing and editing would be difficult without a means to communicate your ideas outside of the text. That's where our discussion pages and forums come in, providing an opportunity to voice your ideas and seek creative counsel.
HarryWiki.com was conceived by Carl Thorpe and JeFF Stumpo in the Fall of 2005. They continue to facilitate its growth, but the project really belongs to all the Harry Potter fans out there. It is a tribute to an engaging fantasy world, a sociological study, a creative endeavor, a new way of writing, a test of the limits of wiki, a point of intersection for popular culture and academia, and a lot of fun.
But of course, the best way to know what HarryWiki is, and what it’s all about, is simply to read it.
