Wikimania 2006 - August 4-6th, 2006Wikimania 2006 was the second annual meeting for Wikipedians and anyone else interested in learning more about Wikipedia and / or wiki technologies in general. Last year, we met in a very nice youth hostel in Frankfurt, Germany, and people from all over the world met, often for the first time. Most people had an area of Wikipedia that they specialized in, and the common thread was the enormous amount of time everyone devoted to making the site the success it is today. This year, the meeting was in Cambridge, Mass, at the Harvard Law School campus. |

Wikimania is the annual international conference of the Wikimedia community. Wikimania allows the community of Wikipedians, and the general public to learn more about Wikipedia and / or wiki technologies in general, and share their experiences face to face with free knowledge initiatives and events all over the world. Wikimania is organized by a different local WikimaniaTeam each year. In 2012, the Wikimania conference took place in Washington, D.C., and the 2013 conference was hosted by Hong Kong. London was the home of the 2014 gathering. The 2015 event took place in Mexico, whilst the 2016 meet-up was in Italy. The 2017 meet was held in Canada, 2018 was in South Africa. The last real meet was in 2019 in Sweden. For the 2020 meet, Thailand was proposed, however, this event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 global pandemic. The 2021 meet was a virtual online event, due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, as was the 2022 event. The next conference due in 2023 is scheduled to be held in the city state of Singapore, whilst the 2024 event is penned for Poland.
Wikimania is funded primarily by the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF); with further additional funding from other local, national, and international sponsors.
