Welcome to Claymore New Wiki
Origins of this wiki
I started in the original Claymore Wiki, editing during the winter of 2010 (under the name jamie95403), trying to introduce name etymologies, geographic articles and the "Yoma War Record" (AKA "Claymore Databook") before starting a new site in late December 2010, Island World of Claymore.
In the summer of 2011, after a software glitch with a new name (Claymore World Wiki), we have the current one.
Purpose of this wiki
To accurately understand in non-Japanese languages the Claymore manga and anime. Though Claymore has been translated into numerous languages, many issues remain. One only need look at the manga forums for the many debates on how something should be translated.
What this wiki is
Content is queen here—written content—with a minimal of speculations (for which there are forums like Animesuki and Mangahelpers).
For purposes of this wiki, unofficial names are improvised for unnamed characters and objects. But we will look at the original Japanese and try to translate the intended meaning as closely as possible.
Real world versus Claymore world
The viewpoint here should avoid the artificial limits of the real world and in-universe approaches. A subject can only be understood from looking within as well as outside.
Norihiro Yagi, the creator of Claymore, displays an extensive knowledge of etymology, history, metaphysics, and not least of all, art. A myriad of art styles, ranging from the Greek Bronze age to 20th century Picasso, appear in Claymore.
At this wiki, we will attempt to uncover the real world within Claymore.
Policies
Text
Policies regarding this wiki are simple. To repeat—content is queen. Written content. Keep it simple and accurate. U.S. spelling and present tense are standard.
When editing an article, we must ask ourselves some or all of these questions:
- Who or what object is it about?
- What happens?
- Where does it happen?
- When does it happen?
- Why does it happen?
- How does it happen?
What is already published here are the templates for further articles.
Media
Definition
Media files are image and sound files. Categories used here are "Manga Image," "Anime Image," "Symbol Image" (for Claymore Symbols, which should be anime red for this site), and "Audio" (sound files).
Use "Special Image" for image files that do not fit other categories.
Usage
Aside from graphical links, one or two images per article is the norm. Typically, an image of the subject—and a Symbol if applicable—inside the infobox. Galleries of an individual character or scene are not encouraged. Again, the emphasis here is written content.
All images on this site have been digitally altered for legibility and removal of copyrighted text and may not reflect the original artist's intent. See sources for originals.
Audio files are acceptable if they pertain to subject.
All media files must be accompanied with the "License and fair use" template with applicable information filled out. When loading a file:
- click "More Options" and then on "Licensing" drop-down menu
- choose "Fair use"
- or copy and paste "License and fair use" template from Template page
See description page of posted media files for examples on how to fill out template. Such as this example.
Image files should be legible and cut from the Claymore manga and anime, not fan-art, for which there are sites like deviantART and Photobucket.
Additional details
Policies on this site are updated on a continuing basis and conform to Wikia's Terms of Use.
