Description
WIKINEWS fr - La source d'informations que vous pouvez écrire.
Wikinews is a collection of wiki sites which present up-to-date, relevant, newsworthy and entertaining content; without bias, with content that is written by the volunteer Wikinews editors. A linguistic 'project' of the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF), all textual content is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 license (CC-BY 2.5), which makes the Wikinews content perpetually available for free redistribution and use.
Wikinews was first suggested as a new wiki site in October 2004 by an anonymous contributor. A demonstration site was created at demo.Wikinews.org, and on 2 December 2004, this demo was moved to en.Wikinews.org. A day later, the German Wikinews was created, and late January 2005, four more language versions were created. Throughout 2005 and beyond, further language versions were created. The last language version created was the Limburgish version on November 2018.
As of May 2023, Wikimedia Meta-Wiki indicates that there are 30 Wikinews versions (down from 33 in March 2013) in different languages, with the Russian version being the largest with nearly 1.5 million articles, followed by the Serbian at more than 50,000 articles, with Portuguese, French, and English versions all exceeding 20,000 articles. New language versions are added when there is significant support for said language. Meta-Wiki historical article new language pre-launch documents the evolution of some of the various language versions of Wikinews, and Meta-Wiki requests for new languages illustrates the process for all Wikimedia Foundation projects. Just like the convention of other WMF projects such as Wikipedia, each Wikinews language version is a sub-domain under the Wikinews.org domain. The Japanese Wikinews, for example, is at https://Ja.Wikinews.org.[1]
