Conservapedia is an encyclopedia written with a christian conservative viewpoint; specifically, Conservapedia's articles are politically conservative, friendly to young Earth creationism and conservative Christianity, and USA-centric. Conservapedia is in general hostile toward what they perceive as a liberal agenda to promote homosexuality and evolutionism.
The site was started in November 2006 by Andrew Schlafly and a group of homeschooled people to provide an alternative to the perceived anti-Christian, anti-creationism, anti-American and anti-conservative bias of Wikipedia. The stated purpose of the site is to provide a family-friendly resource for homeschooled children from fundamentalist Christian homes. However, a few more adult topics such as homosexuality are also treated in depth.
Every edit on Conservapedia is scrutinized by the administrators for potential liberal bias. As a result, Conservapedia cannot be edited during nighttime, U.S. time, except by users with special "night editing" rights, to prevent vandals from striking when all or most of the administrators are asleep.
Criticism
The website has been the subject of attacks by liberals, moderates, and a few conservatives for its strong viewpoints. Users who try to add non-christian information are blocked. People wanting to join and edit Conservapedia need to know that the administrators largely do not condone endless debate, and the wiki is not designed to be an avenue for people to "disprove" conservative ideals. Because of this, users should be aware that Conservapedian administrators usually have a low tolerance for trying to add what they consider "liberal bias" to articles, as well as long discussions on article talk pages. There is a debate namespace dedicated towards debates, but the administrators also expect users to contribute positively to mainspace articles.
RationalWiki is an entire wiki originally founded to criticize Conservapedia and also to criticize pseudo-science in general.
