Citizendium aims to gather knowledge more effectively than Wikipedia and aims at quality as well as quantity.
It was founded by Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger in 2006 to remedy what he viewed as problems with Wikipedia. The site requires the use of verifiable RealNames and academic credentials.
Citizendium has an organized hierarchy: Authors are anyone with an approved account, while Editors are contributors whose demonstrated expertise in their field is officially recognized by the Citizendium. "Constables" play the role of administrators.
