Can you help determine what upgrade is needed?
Hi Jack, if you wouldn't mind helping to figure out what this wiki needs, I can try to get it done. Best, MarkDilley
- Hi Mark, thank you for your message. :-)
- Special:Version says that WikiIndex is currently running MediaWiki 1.17.0, which has reached its end-of-life in this month; see the table on mw:Version lifecycle and the fancy timeline there for more information. So upgrading MediaWiki core from 1.17.0 to the latest stable, 1.19.1, would definitely be welcome.
- In addition to that, it might be useful to upgrade some of the extensions; or it might be so that some of them even need to be upgraded to function correctly. For example, as of now, WikiIndex is running Semantic MediaWiki version 1.5.6 but according to the official Semantic MediaWiki home page, the latest version is 1.7.1.
- Like I wrote on WikiIndex:AntiSpamMeasures#WikiIndex is being overwhelmed by spam bots, some new anti-spam tools might also help; right now I'd recommend mw:Extension:SimpleAntiSpam and mw:Extension:AbuseFilter; both extensions are used on the Wikimedia Foundation wikis, such as Wikipedia and related projects, so they should be stable enough.
- Please let me know if you have any questions. --Jack Phoenix 04:31, 29 June 2012 (PDT)
- Hmm, that wasn't too hard. Emufarmers (talk) 21:07, 4 July 2012 (PDT)
Translation review
Hi Jack. Would you mind reviewing the translation on the AnarkismiWiki article here on WikiIndex please? Many thanks and best regards, Hoof Hearted • talk2HH 14:38, 19 September 2012 (PDT)
- I didn't yet touch the machine-translated English translation, but I have to wonder why we even bother with that page. The URL listed on the article displays a message stating "off line"[sic] and the WikiIndex article is more of a(n outdated) status update on the wiki's situation rather than an article explaining what the wiki is about, etc.
The article also mentions that the administration's e-mail address is aropupu[ at ]stc.cx, so maybe you'll want to contact them at that address and ask about the wiki's situation. --Jack Phoenix (talk) 05:36, 21 September 2012 (PDT)
