:::: One can fill any value one imagines. That in itself is good, because one may encounter engines unknown before. But I think it is the most common case that one has no idea what the engine is (besides Wikia and unaltered MediaWiki). So empty we do not want to have it. Also we do not want to have a collection of {'no idea', 'unknown', 'UnknownEngine'; 'YourWikiEngine', ...} Therefore I think it is better to set a default like 'YourWikiEngine'. To suggest this in the (?) is the least.Manorainjan (talk) 00:43, 23 August 2014 (UTC) | :::: One can fill any value one imagines. :::::To be frank, I think our listing of wiki engines is arguably the most comprehensive (I mean in terms of listing, maybe not in terms of detail of each engine), so I think it unlikely we have missed out any. That isn't to say we have a crystal ball!! – of course new engines crop up now and then, but we are generally quite swift in adding them here. WikiMatrix is another good resource for wiki engine listing – it has considerably more in-depth detail on some engines, but it has many not listed.
:::::I don't agree that we can just fill in anything we want. Wiki engine is a semantic property, and whilst we havn't yet created more in-depth semantic properties for wiki engines, that area is one which I'm keen to expand. We need to observe real caution regarding semantic data, the semantic statistics shows we have 29 properties, but we only use 13. If you look at our full list of properties, it states we have 44 properties, again, we only use 13 – look at all those red links! The others were created due to some well intended but misguided edits to a template. This is why I'm super cautious regarding editing certain templates, and why we can't just add any value such as a wiki engine.
:::::Finally, I struggle to agree that wiki folks have no idea what engine they are using. Excluding the many who edit WMF or Wikia wikis, most regulars on independent wikis would know which engine they were using. But even if you are correct, and they enter the wrong engine – this is a wiki – we can easily correct it! In summary, only valid engines can be used from the form – we don't create false semantic information such as 'UnknownEngine', 'YourWikiEngine', etc. Sean, aka <small>Hoof Hearted</small> • Admin / 'Crat • <small>talk2HH</small> 20:15, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
