I've been to sites where they asked you to log in with your name.  Most people used their name.  No discussion of "real name" was needed.  That's why we changed it here, to "name" instead of real name.  Maybe my logic doesn't work because there are too many mediawiki sites that don't require realnames.  I dunno.
