I think that in today's wikisphere, there are a lot of advantages to working under a pseudonym. Some of those reasons are reminiscent of the reasons for why one shouldn't talk to police. These days, a lot of ad hominem attacks are made against Wikipedia editors based on their real world identities and affiliations. People accuse them of pushing an ideological agenda or pursuing the interests of their organizations at the expense of the encyclopedia's neutrality. Also, especially in ArbCom cases, sometimes people say "This is an unsavory individual who should be banned because his off-wiki conduct would reflect negatively on our encyclopedia."

Since so many people have good reason to use pseudonyms at Wikipedia, they also have likely gotten in the habit of using those pseudonyms on other wikis. Therefore, they might as well use the same pseudonyms here too. Leucosticte (talk) 12:37, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
