Quite simply, digital preservation is one (or more) of the available methods whereby information technology is used to create archives of a medium which does not exist in a conventional or traditional 'hard copy', such as a real book, traditional sheet music, vinyl record, legal documents, vellum scrolls, etc. Specifically, digital preservation usually (though not exclusively) uses source material which was originally generated; meaning that in their crudest form, will be constructed from a series of ones (1) and zeros (0).
