The Netgear Stora, the Seagate GoFlex Home, the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini – Home Edition, the Verbatim MediaShare, are low-cost home NAS (network attached storage devices) with very similar electronic hardware. The hardware runs ( open source) Red Hat Linux ( embedded Linux).
With some time, and this wiki, you can fix some of these limitations and bugs, and make it do a lot of things that it can't do 'out of the box'. (Some people claim this is ' hardware hacking'.)
Originally called Hardware Hackers Unite (HHU),[1] the subsequently renamed OpenStora wiki discusses all this hardware, and how to reprogram it to do more things. Dead since early-2018.
