Bavaria is located in the south-east of the country, and its neigbouring states are Baden-Württemberg (to its west), Hesse (north-west), Thuringia (north), and Saxony (north north-east). It shares country borders with Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Its largest and city is Munich (de: München).
