== Dead wiki sites ==
Being as [[WikiIndex]] has wanted to list [[:Category:All|ALL wiki]] sites - '[[:Category:Dead|dead]] or [[:Category:Active|alive]]', and we no longer use the 'Inactive' template (for a variety of valid reasons), I am aware that some folks are still uncomfortable with the lack of instant visible identification that they are indeed dead.  So I have long being chewing over ways to improve this.  I currently have two different ideas, one is a basic method, but will need manual editing of every dead wiki article.  The second idea is much preferred, but it requires new coding to our {{Template|Wiki}} infobox template - and I am struggling to work out how!
Two options for dead wiki articles:
#In the <code>|name =</code> field of the {{Template|Wiki}} infobox template, use the strike-out function, eg, <code><nowiki>|name = <s>Felix Pleşoianu Wiki</s></nowiki></code>.  [[Felix Pleşoianu Wiki]] is an example currently like this.  An additional strike-out can be done to the article title, eg, <code><nowiki>{{DISPLAYTITLE:<s>Felix Pleşoianu Wiki</s>}}</nowiki></code>.  Unfortunately, I don't think this method complies with accessibility standards (but neither does most of Wikipedia!)
#Change the {{Template|Wiki}} infobox template so that when <tt>Dead</tt> is entered in the <code>|status =</code> field, the background colour within the infobox automatically changes from the default white to a darker colour - maybe dark-grey?
Thoughts please.  [[User:Hoof Hearted|<big>Sean</big>, <small>''aka'' Hoof Hearted</small>]] • [[:Category:Active administrators of this wiki|Admin]] / [[WikiIndex:Bureaucrats|'Crat]] • <small>[[User talk:Hoof Hearted|talk2HH]]</small> 01:17, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Dead wiki sites

Being as WikiIndex has wanted to list ALL wiki sites - 'dead or alive', and we no longer use the 'Inactive' template (for a variety of valid reasons), I am aware that some folks are still uncomfortable with the lack of instant visible identification that they are indeed dead. So I have long being chewing over ways to improve this. I currently have two different ideas, one is a basic method, but will need manual editing of every dead wiki article. The second idea is much preferred, but it requires new coding to our {{Wiki}} infobox template - and I am struggling to work out how!

Two options for dead wiki articles:

  1. In the |name = field of the {{Wiki}} infobox template, use the strike-out function, eg, |name = <s>Felix Pleşoianu Wiki</s>. Felix Pleşoianu Wiki is an example currently like this. An additional strike-out can be done to the article title, eg, {{DISPLAYTITLE:<s>Felix Pleşoianu Wiki</s>}}. Unfortunately, I don't think this method complies with accessibility standards (but neither does most of Wikipedia!)
  2. Change the {{Wiki}} infobox template so that when Dead is entered in the |status = field, the background colour within the infobox automatically changes from the default white to a darker colour - maybe dark-grey?

Thoughts please. Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 01:17, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
