Kayak Wiki, also stylised kayakwiki, and latterly KayakWiki, was available as two concurrent wiki sites. The original site was founded 2001,[2] powered by UseMod Wiki, and found at KayakForum.com.[3] The subsequent wiki site was founded 2006, powered by MediaWiki, and found at KayakWiki.org; from 2007, this was separated into two separate language sub-domains, for English[4] and French.[5]

The original home of Kayak Wiki was set to read only since 2006, when the content was moved to KayakWiki.org and set-up on MediaWiki software, with its content released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike 2.5 license (CC-BY-NC-SA-2.5). A key motivator for the move was that the original UseMod Wiki site (with content released under no license) on KayakForum.com got spammed into oblivion. The new system administrator put some effort in, and the content had progressed considerably on the newer MediaWiki site; including nice navigation structures, and image features enabled by the superior software. However, it has more recently disappeared (2008 some time?); fortunately, the Internet Archive WaybackMachine at Archive.org has captured 653 urls for KayakWiki.org. Perhaps it is lucky after all then, that the original UseMod Wiki site still existed for a while afterwards in read-only form, so the content is still available to be rescued, although this content was missing couple of years worth of edits!
