Wikispecies is an open, free directory of species. The goal of the wiki is to become an extensive database for taxonomy as a tool for biologists. As of March 2006, Wikispecies has versions in 32 different languages.

Founded in September {{tag|Founded in 2004|2004}}, by March [[:Category:Founded in 2006|2006]], Wikispecies had versions in thirty-two (32) different [[:Category:Wiki language|languages]], and by October [[:Category:Founded in 2012|2012]], that had increased to sixty-seven (67) languages.  However, unlike the {{tag|Wiki Multilingual|multilingual}} conventions of other {{tag|Wikimedia Foundation}} (WMF) projects, all Wikispecies language versions are sub-pages of the primary '<tt>Species.Wikimedia.org</tt>' domain, in a similar method as the [[Wikimedia Commons]].
