Should the wiki description page be in the :Category:Wiki Engine? I would say not, otherwise we end up with each wiki engine listed twice (since each also appears as a sub category)

Organizing wiki engine information and interlinking

 • We have a category for each wiki engine, which is where we see all the different wikis which are using it.
 • We have a wiki description page for wiki engines where they have a wiki (most wiki engine's have an official website which is powered by the software, as a flagship example)

...so maybe we should describe the features of the wiki software at top of the category page ("The following wikis are powered by SuchAndSuchWiki. This software has nifty features X Y Z."), and we include a link to the wiki description page ("The home page of this wiki engine is SuchAndSuchWiki")

...Then on the wiki description page we describe the contents of the wiki itself ("This wiki supports the user and developer community for the 'SuchAndSuchWiki' wiki engine") and we include a link to the category ("See :Category:SuchAndSuchWiki for a list of wikis powered by this wiki engine").

There may be some overlap, but generally we go into more detail about the software, on the category page. And we talk about the information they are providing on their homepage, in the wiki description page.

I've done MediaWiki as an example of what I mean.

further organisation questions

Should the wiki description page be in the Category:Wiki Engine? I would say not, otherwise we end up with each wiki engine listed twice (since each also appears as a sub category) -- Harry Wood 05:56, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)

Unpopular Wiki Engines

How to handle wiki engines where we find only one wiki using it. Maybe the article page should be added to Category:Wiki Engine, and we dont bother creating a a category for it? -- Harry Wood 05:56, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)

Naming of wiki Engines

Why is it UseModWiki, but OddMuse (not wiki)? TedErnst 11:46, 22 Jan 2006 (EST)

Good question Ted. It should probably be just 'UseMod', but that'll take a bit of changing! -- Harry Wood 05:56, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)
