Conservapedia is an encyclopedia written with a conservative viewpoint; specifically, Conservapedia's articles are politically conservative, friendly to young Earth creationism and conservative Christianity, and USA-centric. Conservapedia is in general hostile to liberals, homosexuals, and people who support or teach the theory of evolution.

The site was started in November 2006 by Andrew Schlafly and a group of homeschooled people to provide an alternative to the perceived anti-Christian, pro-Evolution, anti-American and anti-conservative bias of Wikipedia. The stated purpose of the site is to provide a family-friendly resource for homeschooled children from fundamentalist Christian homes. However, a few more adult topics such as homosexuality are also treated in depth.

Every edit on Conservapedia is scrutinized by the administrators for potential liberal bias. As a result, Conservapedia cannot be edited during nighttime, U.S. time, except by users with special "night editing" rights, to prevent vandals from striking when all or most of the administrators are asleep.

Guidelines for prospective editors

Failure to follow these guidelines can lead to a block. If you didn't feel you were doing anything wrong seeing a ban window can be a shock.

  • Make your username a first name and last initial. Make sure they sound sufficiently Christian not to rouse a sysops's suspicion.
  • Before making ANY comments on a talk page, edit or create at least 10 other pages, to avoid violating the "90/10" rule.
  • NEVER put [citation requested] tags on an article that was recently edited by a sysop.
  • Don't post anything that might be construed as "Liberally biased" or pro-evolution.
  • Don't correct factual errors by sysops. They'll just block you and put the errors back.
