Wiki.yt is a small wiki farm created by Kasper Souren, aka Guaka. There are two main goals:
- Develop real social wikis
- Make money through advertising, hosting and consulting
These goals can be in conflict, in which case, goal #1 prevails.
Real social wikis
We want to provide a space that is currently not well covered. Wikimedia Foundation is too big and too bureaucratic, and Wikia is way too commercial and annoying for small wikis.
- Community before profit;
- Only ads on wikis where it's not inappropriate, (e.g. no AdSense on Veganwiki since it leads to ads for non-vegan products);
- 'Sensible' wikis are hosted for free.
Money
We make money through
- Professional MediaWiki consulting, including Pywikibot coding, system administration, development of extensions and MediaWiki spam removal;
- Quality MediaWiki hosting;
- Advertising where this does not have adverse effect on the community.
