Semi-deletion (concept)

Semi-deletion, or pure wiki deletion, was a proposal, initially raised in late 2003, for a revamping of wikis' deletion processes on Wikipedia that never materialised. It would have established a new tier of deletion: page semi-deletion, in addition to the already-existing page deletion and revision deletion. Brian Wolff remarked that it might suffice to give all users power to view revisions of deleted pages (i.e. those stored in the wiki sites' archive table). A counter-argument to this was that pages deleted for being, say, copyvios, would not be suitable to be viewed by all users.

Observation of proposal

The copyright argument was completely bogus, the kind of thinking that got English Wikipedia trapped into endless controversy. Actual copyvio could be absolutely deleted. The proposal would not have kept illegal content! If combined with routine protection of such pages, when deleted through a closed discussion, the continual problem of the re-creation of such pages would have been greatly reduced, it would then have required an admin action to allow the page to be unblanked.
