Description[edit]
WikiCFP is a wiki for Calls For Papers.
Academic conferences and journals often broadcast a "call for papers" on some specific theme. People doing research in that area will submit a rough draft paper, and the conference organizers / journal editors will invite the people who "make the cut" to give a full presentation at the conference / write a complete journal article.
Some of the most popular themes in 2009 are: "communications", "artificial intelligence" (AI), "image processing", "data mining" "natural language processing" (NLP), "wireless", "robotics", "distributed systems", etc.
We hope that the "wiki way" will avoid "Scylla and Charybdis" problem: on the one hand, overwhelming people overwhelmed by invitations to too many conferences and journals that they are not at all interested in; and on the other, missing out on what would have been excellent presentations and journal articles by certain people by neglecting to invite those people.
great feature: you can list the conferences you are interested in on your user page, and then "sort by deadline".
