Wiki.yt is a small wiki farm created by Kasper Souren, aka Guaka. There are two main goals:

Develop real social wikis
Make money through advertising, hosting and consulting

These goals can be in conflict, in which case, goal #1 prevails.

Real social wikis

We want to provide a space that is currently not well covered. Wikimedia Foundation is too big and too bureaucratic, and Wikia is way too commercial and annoying for small wikis.

Community before profit;
Only ads on wikis where it's not inappropriate, (e.g. no AdSense on Veganwiki since it leads to ads for non-vegan products);
'Sensible' wikis are hosted for free.

Money

We make money through

Professional MediaWiki consulting, including Pywikibot coding, system administration, development of extensions and MediaWiki spam removal;
Quality MediaWiki hosting;
Advertising where this does not have adverse effect on the community.

2013-12-24 — launched Deletionpedia.org v2
2013-09-12 — Nomadwiki, took over Cheap Travel Wiki
2013-05-09 — started Cheap Travel Wiki
2013-05-07 — 1. interfamily links, 2. Wiki.yt Google discussion group, 3. recent changes dashboard
2013-04-28 — set up Velowiki with shared user and interwiki database, later we'll merge some of the user tables of other wikis

We're already running several successful wikis

Hitchwiki is not on this server but is definitely a friendly wiki. Mirror.Hitchwiki.org will be on this server.

And then there are some less successful ones, possibly to be revived.

Wiki.yt was not just built by Guaka. Some other people were essential to its growth and success: Sigurdas, Simison, MrTweek, Robino and way many more other people.

Why .yt?

Most wiki.* domains were taken, what do You Think? Well, and it was cheap.
