Edit summary: Difference between revisions

An <b>edit summary</b> is one of the fundamental concepts of most, if not all, [[:Category:Wiki engine|wiki engines]]. It is generally considered to be a good idea to always fill-in the edit summary field accurately.

When [[Help:Editing|editting]] an article here on [[WikiIndex]], there is a small field that is labelled '{{Wp|Help:Edit summary|Summary:}}' under the main [[edit box]].<!--  It looks like this:

The text that is written in the edit summary will appear verbatim on the [[Special:RecentChanges|recent changes]] list, in the {{Wp|Help:Page history|page revision history}} of its related article, on the {{Mw|Help:Diff|diff page}}, and in the {{Mw|Help:Watching pages|watchlists}} of [[user]]s who are watching that article. Filling-in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you have changed, so please always fill-in the edit summary field. If you are adding a new section, then please do not just keep the previous section's header in the edit-summary field; please fill-in your new section's name instead. Thank you.
