::Angela, I think it would be fabulous! But agree with Wolf about the much work :-) We are trying to get WikiProject:Wikis to Add done! Best, MarkDilley
:::Given that Angela, is is one of the co-founders of Wikia, then I think that she could probably pull in support from Wikia staff and get Wikia wikis added into :Category:Wikia fairly soon after they are set up. Or maybe Wikia and WikiIndex can work together to make some sort of WikiaBot that grabs the basic information from Wikia and then posts it on WikiIndex.
:::But as that there are over 4,000 Wikia wikis to add to WikiIndex, I would be inclined to suggest that Wikia gets a bot to put out a system message to their wiki admins that do not yet have a page here. Poking admins may encourage many of them to set up their own WikiIndex pages. And if the wiki founder (or a wiki staff member) sets up the page here, they are probably more likely to come back and update it.
:::Given that Wikia wikis all have a couple of things in common, maybe Wikia wiki editors could be targeted with boilerplate text that already has the correct edit mode, wiki software and :Category:Wikia added to it. David Shepheard 08:06, 24 May 2009 (EDT)

==Where should I highlight a wiki collaboration project?==
I have, together with some others, put together a proposal for a wiki Q&A site called WikiSpeedia. The goal is to provide help and community for experts and moderators across a variety of wiki platforms.
I think this could be of great benefit to MediaWiki user's and other people with a passion for sharing information, whether publicly or behind company firewalls. Here's my question: where can I highlight this where it will be effective but not draw disapproval? Note: there's no money involved so there is nothing to sell except a free exchange of information. ==New look, and wiki news==
I like the new look, particularly pulling the welcome languages above the text boxes. However, WikiOhana - that is a dead wiki, so is it wise to have that on the main page?
And can I propose (or be advised of) a 'WikiNews' section for the main page. My thoughts on this ... there is some major re-shuffling of travel related wikis, which involve mergers and forks, disgruntled admins, Internet Brands Inc, and Wikimedia Foundation. I think these kinds of wiki-waves are probably worthy of being on our main page. Hoof Hearted • talk2HH 14:46, 3 October 2012 (PDT)

: | ::I've looked at :Category:RecentChanges.info - unfortunately, the URL it is referring to is effectively dead, and all its articles are long out of date. Noticed cwc.editme.com wiki described at WorldCitizenship is now "Site Not Found", and may be the case for other wikis that were hosted at editme.com (such as fancyclopedia.editme.com). In 2008 cwc.editme.com was working again but seems to be named Human Union. Should any users experience Template loop detected on our main page, it seems to be caused by a caching problem on our server. - Given that Angela, is is one of the co-founders of Wikia, then I think that she could probably pull in support from Wikia staff and get Wikia wikis added into Category:Wikia fairly soon after they are set up. Or maybe Wikia and WikiIndex can work together to make some sort of WikiaBot that grabs the basic information from Wikia and then posts it on WikiIndex.
- But as that there are over 4,000 Wikia wikis to add to WikiIndex, I would be inclined to suggest that Wikia gets a bot to put out a system message to their wiki admins that do not yet have a page here. Poking admins may encourage many of them to set up their own WikiIndex pages. And if the wiki founder (or a wiki staff member) sets up the page here, they are probably more likely to come back and update it.
- Given that Wikia wikis all have a couple of things in common, maybe Wikia wiki editors could be targeted with boilerplate text that already has the correct edit mode, wiki software and Category:Wikia added to it. David Shepheard 08:06, 24 May 2009 (EDT)
Compliments[edit]
WikiIndex is coming along nicely. I'm a little obsessive, and like the way WI is well organized, clean and neat. Best wishes. —Dishiwiki 04:03, 17 October 2008 (EDT)

Where should I highlight a wiki collaboration project?[edit]
I have, together with some others, put together a proposal for a wiki Q&A site called WikiSpeedia. The goal is to provide help and community for experts and moderators across a variety of wiki platforms.
I think this could be of great benefit to MediaWiki user's and other people with a passion for sharing information, whether publicly or behind company firewalls. Here's my question: where can I highlight this where it will be effective but not draw disapproval? Note: there's no money involved so there is nothing to sell except a free exchange of information. Thanks in advance for any advice. --Mark Robinson 23:48, 5 November 2010 (PDT)
- A good question, to which I do not have an answer. I think I'll repost this at the Community Portal. --MarvelZuvembie 11:34, 6 November 2010 (PDT)
- MarvelZuvembie - thank you very much! --Mark Robinson 04:12, 7 November 2010 (PST)
Your logo should change[edit]

anon edited Template:Wiki dead[edit]
Anon 186.30.135.229 edited Template:Wiki dead. I'm not sure if it is an improvement or not. --EarthFurst 14:21, 11 December 2011 (PST)
- I have often wanted to just leave a note saying to change the template from Wiki to Inactive ~~ MarkDilley
Locations[edit]
Hi, I don't have access to the Welcome page, so was wondering if someone could add "Category:Australia and Oceania" to the location list? --thedugganaut (talk) 15:10, 31 August 2012 (PDT)
- Category:Oceania isn't yet a valid category, but I added Category:Australia, Category:New Zealand, and Category:India for you. Any other improvements or additions you can suggest? Hoof Hearted • talk2HH 16:49, 31 August 2012 (PDT)
- There is an existing Category:Australasia and Oceania already, but I think having NZ and Australia on the front page separately is even better. Thanks! --thedugganaut (talk) 23:30, 31 August 2012 (PDT)
New look, and wiki news[edit]
- Love the idea of WikiNews... we have RecentChanges.info that I would like to resurrect for wiki news, until then, manually on the wiki is an awesome idea! Best, MarkDilley
- I've looked at Category:RecentChanges.info - unfortunately, the URL it is referring to is effectively dead, and all its articles are long out of date. I honestly don't think we ought to be including dead or stale info on our 'front door'. I also checked out Wiki spotlight (and tidied it a little), and whilst I agree that might be a good platform, I again feel that it has too much outdated info to be used on our main page. How do you propose we move forward on this? Hoof Hearted • talk2HH 10:16, 5 October 2012 (PDT)
Favicons[edit]
Along with the logos, is it all at possible to add in the Iconlink extension? Thanks! 09:15, 5 October 2012 (PDT)
- I've added the suggestion to WikiIndex:Upgrades needed, where we will hopefully discuss in the near future. BTW, we don't currently have a Favicon . . . do we need to create one, or does this extension do it for us? Hoof Hearted • talk2HH 10:57, 5 October 2012 (PDT)
Post stuff about this on the main page[edit]

EditMe.com wikis[edit]
Noticed cwc.editme.com wiki described at WorldCitizenship is now "Site Not Found", and may be the case for other wikis that were hosted at editme.com (such as fancyclopedia.editme.com). Wiki that used logo was there on {or before} 2005 December ("Wiki Site of the Community of World Citizens") to on {or after} 2006 July, and then at some point between that July and 2007 January it became "There is no site configured at this address." In 2008 cwc.editme.com was working again but seems to be named Human Union. Whether it was a separate organization probably doesn't matter much as archive.org's Wayback Machine only has one archive of the 2008 CWC wiki homepage (next Wayback of homepage is back to "There is no site configured at this address.") --EarthFurst (talk) 21:10, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
move closed discussion to Archive 1?[edit]
Ok to move closed discussions to Archive 1? (similar to WikiIndex talk:Community portal/Archive 1) Example of suggested sections to move:
- Colors section
- Protecting --EarthFurst (talk) 00:30, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- Archiving I certainly don't mind but I also don't think it's necessary on a page this short. Koavf (talk) 05:57, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
any WikiIndex people in charge of AboutUs???[edit]
I thought AboutUs.org was a project of some people at WikiIndex? Have some serious concerns about AboutUs and hoping AboutUs people are reachable via WikiIndex (AboutUs seems to be a home for spam now. And latest tweet from AboutUs twitter is almost a year old.) --EarthFurst (talk) 00:33, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- AboutUs You may have the WikiIndex founders confused with Ward Cunningham. Koavf (talk) 05:58, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
- Have You tried Contact Us? Currently, none of the wiki people aktive (ha-ha) on WikiIndex are involved with AboutUs. The only person in Question [Ray] has left AboutUs in 2012. --Manorainjan 15:11, 21 October 2016 (PDT)
'MyVariables' extension[edit]
Hi, it seems that the CURRENTUSER template isn't working anymore. After some research, the MyVariables extension is lacking on WikiIndex. This extension is mandatory to enable specific user's magic words. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 13:26, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks I don't know that we have a tech support person at the moment but I hope this can get resolved soon. Koavf (talk) 13:41, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- To hope is not a constructive activity that moves anything forward. --Manorainjan 10:34, 23 September 2016 (PDT)
- Agreed Nor is your comment. But I didn't want to leave his post without a response indefinitely. I can't fix this problem but I don't want him to think that it's being ignored. Koavf (talk) 12:32, 23 September 2016 (PDT)
- So You think that false hope is better than true ignorance? ;-) Manorainjan 12:44, 23 September 2016 (PDT)

hoax of Category:ConLang?[edit]
Think i found a hoax at WikiIndex. Hope someone will go to Category talk:ConLang and post an opinion there. --EarthFurst (talk) 03:15, 10 December 2016 (PST)

Slow server?[edit]
Time and again I find the server to be rather slow. Did that occur to others as well? --Manorainjan 11:27, 9 August 2017 (PDT)
- Yes, tho it's going much faster now. Koavf (talk) 11:53, 9 August 2017 (PDT)
- indeed. --Manorainjan 11:56, 9 August 2017 (PDT)
Template loop detected[edit]
Should any users experience Template loop detected on our main page, it seems to be caused by a caching problem on our server. Pressing F5 alone won't rectify the issue, as that merely refreshes your local display. Forcing a cache refresh can be done by Windows users pressing Ctrl + F5. Alternatively, use our Monobook skin, and then click on the orange 'refresh' tab at the top of the screen. HTH as a temporary fix whilst we solve our backend issues. Gamepedia.com[edit]
I think, the page Gamepedia.com needs to be converted into a wiki farm page. And all wikis from that farm which currently hosts about 1,660 Wikis, should get a special gamepedia-something as wikiEngine, just like wikia-engine. --Manorainjan 13:21, 30 March 2018 (PDT)
- I agree with this since I have added all the wikis that are hosted there with Gamepedia as the wiki engine, just waiting for it to get added. Or most of them anyway. --Raltseye (talk) 23:48, 31 March 2018 (PDT)
- I've moved the Gamepedia.com article from the main namespace into a category - category:Gamepedia.com, and changed the standard wiki infobox to wiki farm infobox. I don't support (yet) the creation of Gamepedia as a separate wiki engine. From what I have viewed, all Gamepedia wikis run on MediaWiki, with a variety of custom skins. If and when Gamepedia create a unique skin which is used as standard across their entire portfolio of wikis, we can then consider creating Gamepedia as an engine in its own right. HTH.
