Hi Smiddle, | |||
There's a new template:sysop that can be used to tag users, which are currently active sysops. I think this will be good, because only sysops have the right to bluck/unblock and if someone feels blocked he needs help. --Wolf | <small>talk</small> 06:44, 13 October 2007 (EDT) |

- Welcome to my talk page! Send me a message
Thanks for all your great work, especially on the Wikipedia pages. I know you've been working on more than just that, and just wanted to pass on my appreciation! TedErnst | talk 13:34, 29 September 2006 (EDT)

Just wanted to thank you again for all your gardening around here. TedErnst | talk 10:20, 18 October 2006 (EDT)
template experiences
Hi smiddle, are you experianced with templates? Could you have a look on Template:Wiki/suggestion, I could not get it to work. My idea was to have entries in the appropriate Unknown Categories for parameters set to default or not set in the including page of an improved Wiki Template. I began working on wiki sizes and wanted to keep track with sizes missing. --Peu 16:33, 19 October 2006 (EDT)
- I'll try with that strange "if" template... – Smiddle / T·C·S·A 09:26, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
- Or maybe it can work without the template. – Smiddle / T·C·S·A 09:30, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
- ...what exactly is not working? – Smiddle / T·C·S·A 09:33, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
- My idea was to elaborate an improved future-save Wiki-Template-mechanism that makes pages visible that use older versions with less parameters. (The today-challenge is to bring a template-formulation to work that, for instance, collects Wikis with no WikiNode given in a new category, maybe Category:UnknownWikiNode). (I'm not sure if it could be done with this MediaWiki-Version) --Peu 13:25, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

wat are you doing?
You know that the includeonly section is responsible for listing in unk-cats [1]? the pipe "|" means here default parameters, not cat order. --Peu 04:09, 21 October 2006 (EDT)
What about wiki_URL
It's crazy but ther seem to be WikiPages without URL. and,
please, could you explain how If works. (so long I have to "family" now) --Peu 04:17, 21 October 2006 (EDT)
- Let's see... Category:UnknownWikiURL. But it only works if wiki_URL is not entered. If 'YourWikiHttp' or 'No' is entered, they'll not be added to the category. Hope there's a conclusion. – Smiddle / T·C·S·A 04:22, 21 October 2006 (EDT)
Oh, there is another mistake
You placed the unk-cats directly in the tamplate, thet causes the template page itself listed in unknowns. I did it now by including the "includeonly" tagging into the if-space and it works. If we could bring the standard wiki property lines into a generic fashion (maybe with your "If") then we can remove the "includeonly" section on top of the tamplate. --Peu 04:35, 21 October 2006 (EDT)
a last one
What do you think about it (2)? --Peu 04:54, 21 October 2006 (EDT)
MyTimezone
Hi smiddle, I have added a Template:TimezoneMiddleEurope to use for our timezone (i it's the same). If we use it, we cann do the formatting in one style and switch DST with one edit. --Peu 07:04, 22 October 2006 (EDT)
- would you, please, have a look on Category talk:Timezone too --Peu 14:42, 23 October 2006 (EDT)
- re: time zone preferences (:uff, was it difficult to detect the autor of this contrib:) you should update your Special:Preferences fourth tab "date & time" (?: mine is german) --Peu 15:41, 23 October 2006 (EDT)
idea about time zone names?
I named the first middle european (time zone plus dst-convention) but what are the names of others. I consulted Wikipedia and so on, but I cannot find names of (time zones + conventions), I find only active time names...I'm not sure...(for instance MEZ (CET) is used to name both time zone and time in winter) can you help me? --Peu 15:50, 23 October 2006 (EDT)
- Maybe they can be named after some big city (e.g Moscow Time) ... or where the time zone is (e.g. Middle Australian Time). I can't help you any further than that, I think. – Smiddle / T·C·S·A 15:53, 23 October 2006 (EDT)
re: size categories
size cats were in former times 10, 100, 1000 and so on, I added the 2*10^e amd 5*10^e type size cats, for justice, but I think it would be not so helpful to add all n*10^e categories. see also Wikipedia:Benford's law --Peu 16:05, 23 October 2006 (EDT)
wiki people language
Hope you are not sour about the recategorization of wiki people languages. ---Peu 18:24, 23 October 2006 (EDT)
visual wiki index
Hi Smiddle, please would you have a look on this: Proposal:Visual WikiIndex --Peu | talk 17:27, 24 October 2006 (EDT)
where?
This[4] was a really good idea, thanks! --Peu | talk 18:06, 25 October 2006 (EDT)
Template:About
What is the purpose of this template? I think the caption "Author" is misleading, the parameter name founder seems better, but...what was your intention? --Peu | talk 09:52, 27 October 2006 (EDT)
- Actually... I don't know. I was thinking of linking to an article about the site creator and one about the page itself. – Smiddle / T·C·@ 12:20, 27 October 2006 (EDT)
Interwiki Table
Go here to see the interwiki list, this list is editable, contact me if you want to be able to do that. John 15:20, 29 October 2006 (EST)
interwiki link
what is the benefit of interwiki link [5]? --Peu | talk 02:45, 30 October 2006 (EST)
- Some of the wikis' got interwiki links from here. We could display them there so that users know they can interlink there. If you want an interwiki link, contact me or John. (I do not know if all wikis are acceptable, but most probably are)– Smiddle / T·C·@ 02:52, 30 October 2006 (EST)
Ns link template
I'm going to delete that because using them requires more typing than using the pipe trick. — User:Sean Fennel@ 01:03, 19 November 2006 (EST)
- For short words maybe. The reason I created it was that I think it's annoying writing the same thing two times. But you can delete it. It's not one of my better works here. – Smiddle / T·C·@ 04:21, 19 November 2006 (EST)
- It can be undeleted if necessary. Coming from Wikipedia I'm more in the mindset of thinking about server space and bandwidth, but that doesn't seem to be a problem here. — User:Sean Fennel@ 04:57, 19 November 2006 (EST)
vandal reverts
Thanks!
- Yeah. I had nothing to do so I chcked the RC list and I saw an active contributor—or not. It was a vandal, sadly. – Smiddle / T·C·@ 08:54, 20 November 2006 (EST)
Those spammers are most likely bots, so I don't think warning them will do any good. — User:Sean Fennel@ 03:36, 24 November 2006 (EST)
you're welcome!

patrolled by default
Could you please change your preferences so your edits are patrolled by default? Thanks! TedErnst | talk 13:54, 25 November 2006 (EST)
- Is it the "Mark edits I make as patrolled" checkbox at prefsection 4? (Then, I have checked it) Also, what's that feature used for? – Smiddle / T·C·@ 14:16, 25 November 2006 (EST)
"New message box" test
Smiddle, you have new messages. --85.30.155.6 14:19, 25 November 2006 (EST)
- Nope, doesn't work. – Smiddle / T·C·@ 14:21, 25 November 2006 (EST)

Editing long pages
You say you can't edit long pages? If you use Firefox with Google toolbar, would this happen to describe your problem? — User:Sean Fennel@ 02:30, 4 December 2006 (EST)
Category:Uncyclomedia Foundation
Hi Smiddle. I found category:Uncyclomedia Foundation where every Uncy was listed. Well, as you may know, Uncyclomedia Foundation is a one-man idea and project maded by Carlb and it's not affiliated with any other wikis than Uncyclopedia (I don't think it has anything to do with Uncyclopedia too, thought). Please watch for not adding other Uncyclopedia language projects to this category. It can by changed to category:Uncyclopedia family, category:Uncyclopedia or category:Uncyclopedia language versions or just leaved as it is, with one page in it. Szoferka 00:55, 8 December 2006 (EST)
readable lang level categories
Hi Smiddle, my intention for the subpages was to select a readable subcategory by pointing to the text of a subpage. Do you prefer the less readable level codes? Look a the discussion of the size categories, here was readablility discussed, too. --Wolf | talk 00:00, 5 March 2007 (PST)
template help?
Hi Smiddle, I'm working on a template that's similiar to the Template:Wiki here: http://www.aboutus.org/Template:NetworkWeaver:Profile and was wondering if you knew how to make it possible to have multiple of one field, more than one "area of focus" in this case. Thanks much in advance! peace, TedErnst | talk
Wiki Engine
Hey, there were some issues with the alt wiki engine template. caused many if not all to default to Category:YourWikiEngine even though the wiki text was the right engine, in the html it was Category:YourWikiEngine.
I fixed it, a little, but broke other things. MarkDilley
NPOV
Hi Smiddle, I think NPOV is great for encyclopedic information and would like to start to explore what point of view would be good for this project. Thanks for sparking that discussion! Best, MarkDilley

Sysop-tag
Hi Smiddle,
There's a new template:sysop that can be used to tag users, which are currently active sysops. I think this will be good, because only sysops have the right to bluck/unblock and if someone feels blocked he needs help. --Wolf | talk 06:44, 13 October 2007 (EDT)
