CvWiki was one of the early wiki engines, created in 1997 by Peter Merel. CvWiki was fundamentally a direct fork of WikiWikiWeb, the original wiki software created by Ward Cunningham. Originally created for Merel's GreenCheese wiki site, CvWiki would be the framework for two subsequent forks of itself, namely TunesWiki, and in 1998, AtisWiki (created by Marcus Denker).
CvWiki was backwards compatible with WikiWikiWeb, and supported the same syntax operations, plus total edit history, backlinks, and transclusion. It stored all data in a flat text file, and is fully integrated with CVS
