"they make for example http://wikiindex.org/Special:ListUsers much less useful" Isn't it the exception rather than the rule in the wikisphere that Special:ListUsers is useful? Leucosticte (talk) 23:17, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

What it happening?

As of these changes the page says that together with the move the domain will change. So this page is not just about a server move? I am utterly confused. I can live with either way, but it think must be clear what we are talking about. Why was only my vote removed and not the votes of the people voting prior to me??? --[[kgh]] (talk) 15:02, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

I've asked Brandon to move the site from a stand alone server to the new create.wiki platform because it'll make it a lot easier to maintain and improve performance. We're hoping this goes smoothly! Separately, as the .wiki operator, we have reserved the name index.wiki and have the option to move the site to that new domain. We think it's shorter and makes sense to use .wiki vs. .com, but that said, we don't want to force this change without active contributors being onboard with it -- it is still a choice. That's how I understood the page and there are no objections from my side to this. Thank you for clarifying. About the domain move. Since I was able to share my thoughts on this and know that they are being considered I am ok with any future decision this. No worries here. --[[kgh]] (talk) 16:10, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
I'm not sure about the last question regarding the removal of [[kgh]]'s vote either? Raymond King | talk
Regarding the removal of what You call a vote: I removed the name of talk from the list of "No concerns" because he expressed concerns right there. So He does have concerns. I moved those concerns to his talk page to give him chance to see I removed it and to place it at any place more suitable if he wishes to hold them up of which I was not sure because of the contradictory statement he gave. As such his name does not belong in this chapter of "no concerns". I did not consider this chapter created by me as a place to vote for anything. I created it to collect expressed abstention from voting which I found distributed around individual talk pages. The most obvious utility of this chapter is, that one does not need to wait for or ask again those persons. Manorainjan (talk) 16:03, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps this is basically my mistake after all. I should not have commented on a spot were I was not really supposed to. Let's just leave it as is and move on. No need for further discussions. I will add my vote again and things are clear. --[[kgh]] (talk) 16:10, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Cleaning the list of accounts

This is my most recent field of interest. But I see the server move as a more important task. I do not want to conflict this tasks. I'm also not convinced, that cleaning it up prior to the move does really any good. If anybody thinks this would make any work easier, I strongly object those kind of idea. Cleaning up the user list would require quite some discussion and experimentation. What I like to add to the server move question from this angle is the question which extensions should be in the new installation in order to promote a clean user list. That would be:

  • Function to really delete an account without the need of back-end access so that any designated sysop can do it.
  • Blacklist against the creation of new spam account
  • Functions that help administration of user accounts including high volumes of old accounts. How would the complete list be analysed, sorted, managed?
