500 Internal Server Error
Still getting plagued by the above error, on quite a regular basis. And it has been occurring for maybe about a year? Any reason why we can not find a fix for this? Sean, aka Hoof Hearted • Admin / 'Crat • talk2HH 08:32, 16 January 2018 (PST)

Dead wiki sites
Being as WikiIndex has wanted to list ALL wiki sites - 'dead or alive', and we no longer use the 'Inactive' template (for a variety of valid reasons), I am aware that some folks are still uncomfortable with the lack of instant visible identification that they are indeed dead. So I have long being chewing over ways to improve this. I currently have two different ideas, one is a basic method, but will need manual editing of every dead wiki article. The second idea is much preferred, but it requires new coding to our {{Wiki}} infobox template - and I am struggling to work out how!
Two options for dead wiki articles:
- In the
|name =
field of the {{Wiki}} infobox template, use the strike-out function, eg,|name = <s>Felix Pleşoianu Wiki</s>
. Felix Pleşoianu Wiki is an example currently like this. An additional strike-out can be done to the article title, eg,{{DISPLAYTITLE:<s>Felix Pleşoianu Wiki</s>}}
. Unfortunately, I don't think this method complies with accessibility standards (but neither does most of Wikipedia!) - Change the {{Wiki}} infobox template so that when Dead is entered in the
|status =
field, the background colour within the infobox automatically changes from the default white to a darker colour - maybe dark-grey?
Thoughts please. Sean, aka Hoof Hearted • Admin / 'Crat • talk2HH 01:17, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- Just do the second one. (always test first) NotGerman (talk) 05:59, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- I can not work out the correct template code to make it happen. NotGerman, are you proficient with template code? Sean, aka Hoof Hearted • Admin / 'Crat • talk2HH 19:57, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Adding a wiki to the WikiIndex in 2022
I'm trying to add another wiki to the WikiIndex, and I get as far as "Step 2" of WikiIndex:Add a Wiki, "Step 2 – create the wiki article page".
Instead of telling me how to do that, WikiIndex:Add a Wiki instead says "Easy page creation form is broken". Should it mention some alternative ways to create a wiki article page?
I have a URL that when I paste it into my address bar, shows me the logo for the Chess Programming Wiki -- but that URL just shows up as itself (text) when I put it in the Chess Programming Wiki article. How do I fix this so it shows the graphical logo? --DavidCary (talk) 21:18, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
- The 'Add a Wiki' page was temporarily edited to disable the new wiki article form, I'm guessing due to the recurring connection errors we get. I now restored that function, and all is working well again.
- I also fixed the logo issue on the Chess Programming Wiki article. Best regards. --Sean, aka Hoof Hearted • Admin / 'Crat • talk2HH 00:38, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Twitter for WikiIndex
Further to the 2017 discussion, do we think that we (the WikiIndex community) kickstart our Twitter feed, and make it active again? I notice that a large number of Wikimedia Foundation wikis have their own dedicated Twitter feed, as do many independent wiki sites. Surely it must be worth trying to engage with new audiences? --Sean, aka Hoof Hearted • Admin / 'Crat • talk2HH 00:54, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
