Category: Antarctica — Antarctica is one of three continents of the southern hemisphere of planet Earth, completely covering and surrounding the South Pole. Unusually, although Antarctica is classed a continent, it does not contain any countries; instead, its land mass is divided into many sectors or areas, and these are controlled by many separate countries, primarily for conducting scientific research, across many diverse professional subjects.

The two other southern hemisphere continents are South America and Australasia and Oceania, and most of Africa.
