This Template:PopulateCategory is either empty, or sparsely populated,
and needs to be 'populated' with articles, stubs (and / or other categories)
relevant to the subject matter of this specific category.

Include an article page in this category via one (or more) of three methods:
a. add PopulateCategory in the appropriate field of its infobox template
b. 'tag' a word within the prose of the article, eg. {{tag|PopulateCategory}}
c. add [[Template:PopulateCategory]] at the bottom of its edit box.

Usage

This PopulateCategory category template can be used on any 'unpopulated' category pages, ie, empty categories, or sparsely populated categories. Its purpose is to prompt editors to add any new or existing wiki articles, including stub articles; or to create completely new articles here on WikiIndex, to the highlighted category.

To include this template banner on any relevant empty or sparsely populated category, simply copy {{PopulateCategory}} and paste it into said category edit box and save. The text highlighted in grey-white (after a., b., and c. examples) in the template will automatically change to the relevant article or category name. Usage of this template will automatically include the said category into category: Categories needing populating.

If the actual category page in question does not have an infobox, nor a right-aligned logo or other image, this template can be aligned to the right margin by copying and pasting

<div style=float:right>{{PopulateCategory}}</div>

If this template is used on an already populated category, but you are aware of significantly more articles to add, you may either leave a note on its talk page, or add a 'hidden' comment alongside the template code, as in

{{PopulateCategory}}<!--there are loads of English Wikia sites-->

When to remove this template?

This is entirely subjective. Here at WikiIndex, we have no specification, nor any defined rule which states the actual level of when a category is adequately 'populated'. Quite simply, it is down to an individual editors own perspective or opinion, and this will clearly vary from person to person. It is actually quite feasible that this template may never be removed on some categories. One such example could be category:Wikia, which hosts over a quarter million (250,000) individual wiki sites, yet WikiIndex has less than 10% of Wikia sites indexed! It would be unreasonable to demand this template stay until every one of those more than 250,000 wikis, which are all public sites, are indexed here! On the flip-side, it is perfect reasonable to keep this template on the Wikia category until it has, say, at least 50% of the total number of Wikia sites be indexed before we remove this template.

For another perspective, some wiki farms specialise in hosting corporate business wiki sites, often accessed via the companies private or corporate network or intranet. These wiki sites will very likely be private, their URLs may never be known to unauthorised personnel. So whilst a wiki host specialising in this sector might say publish 'so-many tens of thousands' of hosted wikis, the reality is that 10%, or even less of their total published figure of hosted wiki sites might be our absolute upper limit of wiki sites that we may ever be able to list here on WikiIndex; removal of this template in that instance of just single percentage population will be seen as totally reasonable.

In essence, please do not worry about making a 'mistake' if you choose to remove (or add) this template to any category.
