The former Wikia Search wiki, also known as Search Wikia Labs, was to accompany the development of the Wikia search engine, an open source search engine with user-editable search results.
The search index was being created using the Wikiasari software, which was then in a beta version.

The site lost traction and stalled for a variety of reasons; it was abandoned late 2007. A relaunch, titled Wikia Search Alpha (at Alpha.Search.Wikia.com) was attempted during January 2008,[1] and a second relaunch occurred June 2008,[2] but eventually met the same fate as its previous iteration, and sometime after May 2009, was subsequently completely taken offline. Its original URL, Search.Wikia.com – then, and now redirects to Wikianswers.
