are there definitions for these? TedErnst 01:19, 19 Jan 2006 (EST)

I've just started adding definitions for them. I think definitions of categories can be very important, to improve useability of the site, but also to resolve any points of confusion, for the benefit of people categorising the pages.
I think we need to keep a lid on the number of these 'wiki edit modes', and be clear what the distinctions are. There's very little difference between Category:ReadOnly, Category:Private, Category:InvitationOnly, Category:RequestLogin. A little merging and deleting may be required, but certainly we need a description at the top of each category. -- Harry Wood 12:27, 19 Jan 2006 (EST)

What about when the front page is read only and the rest is open? TedErnst 02:03, 19 Jan 2006 (EST)

It is OpenEdit then. Don't you think? MarkDilley
Yep I'd say Category:OpenEdit, in fact I have now said so in the definition of that category! (can change if people disagree though) -- Harry Wood 12:27, 19 Jan 2006 (EST)

RequestLogin

16 (now 14) down to 4 process

Let's see how many of each of these there are now, and see which ones might be combined or discarded. Seeing overlap in definitions can also be helpful here. The goal is to get down to a manageable list of about 4 items. TedErnst | talk 15:48, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)

    • propose LoginToEdit Mark
  • OpenEdit (729)
  • Private (19)
    • propose that any wiki tagged as private point to the wiki software project: like on my homepage, instead of pointing to my specific private wiki, I should point to pbwiki.com. MarkDilley | talk
  • ReadOnly (23)
  • RequestLogin (9)
    • propose LoginToEdit Mark
    • propose ApprovalRequired Ted
  • Restricted (2)

    • propose ApprovalRequired Ted
  • SaveCheck (14)
  • Subscription (1)
    • propose ApprovalRequired Ted
  • TempEditLock (1)

point of view: In my mind OpenEdit is totally clear. LoginToEdit is also clear in that there is no human being deciding who gets access. Anyone can do it. All the others require some kind of human intervention to edit (Membership, Subscription, RequestLogin, etc) TedErnst | talk 16:13, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)
