Conservapedia is an encyclopedia written with a conservative viewpoint; specifically, Conservapedia's articles are politically conservative, friendly to young Earth creationism and conservative Christianity, and USA-centric. Conservapedia is in general hostile to liberals, homosexuals, and people who support or teach the theory of evolution.

The site was started in November 2006 by Andrew Schlafly and a group of homeschooled people to provide an alternative to the perceived anti-Christian, pro-Evolution, anti-American and anti-conservative bias of Wikipedia. The stated purpose of the site is to provide a family-friendly resource for homeschooled children from fundamentalist Christian homes. However, a few more adult topics such as homosexuality are also treated in depth.

Every edit on Conservapedia is scrutinized by the administrators for potential liberal bias. As a result, Conservapedia cannot be edited during nighttime, U.S. time, except by users with special "night editing" rights, to prevent vandals from striking when all or most of the administrators are asleep.

Criticism

The website has been the subject of strong criticism by liberals, moderates, and even other conservatives for its perceived extreme viewpoints. Many users who tried to edit the site are blocked largely because they hold non-conservative views. People wanting to join and edit Conservapedia need to know that a wide range of edits that would normally be considered responsible can lead to a block.

The website RationalWiki was largely set up by those expelled from Conservapedia as a "snarky" critical response to Conservapedia. Many criticisms can be found about Conservapedia on this wiki:
